On his debut album David Larkin brings the legacy of his fellow Roscommon man Percy French right back into the limelight. Featuring twelve tracks with insightful liner notes and jest-filled art work, a host of accomplished accompanists, plus Larkin's distinct vocals and performative abilities he rejuvenates some of the best known French ballads.

Citing singers such as Johnny Moynihan, Tim Lyons, Dick Hogan, Tony Small, Terry Smith, Willie Green, Éamonn Brophy, Seán Ryan, and Pat Conneely as major influences David exhibits how he has readily absorbed the art of story-telling by means of song. His rousing interpretations emphasise the humour, rhythmic delight and narrative of the songs.

David Larkin Galway, Ireland

Though reared in Galway, David was born in Ballygalda, Co. Roscommon. His repertoire consists mainly of comic songs, particularly those of Percy French.

Much of his influences came from years spent working in Galway’s traditional music pubs where he readily soaked up the tradition.

David also plays the mouth-organ and regularly attends sessions in Galway and all counties west of The Shannon. ... more
